UNESCO biosphere reserves are ecologically unique. Within the framework of the international criteria, they examine sustainable conservation and the use of the areas within the reserves in a manner which does not damage the natural environment.

One of the main reasons that the valley "Grosses Walsertal" was awarded biosphere park status is its intact natural and cultural landscape. The biosphere park management team initiates and coordinates projects and is committed, amongst other things, to raising awareness and acceptance of ecologically important areas and to biological diversity.
