Steep, scarcely populated mountain sides mark the “Grosses Walsertal” and give the region it’s distinctive flair. About 3.400 people found their home on this surface, counting 192 km² spread on six municipalities. However, there are not enough vacancies available in the valley. Many people commute each day to the Walgau or Rheintal. Whoever has a job within the valley works as a farmer in one of the 180 agricultural enterprise, in the tourism sector, in public affairs or in one of the small businesses.
The requirements of biosphere parks of maintenance and development of the living space is a great chance for the future of the “Grosses Walsertal”. This can be used as a basis to create employment opportunities and vacancies in order to ensure a good quality of life in the valley.
This requires:
- measures to maintain a functional local supply
- awareness-raising of it’s importance among the population
- creation of incentives to use regional offers
- promotion of regional added values and
- cooperation
