Living in the Biosphere Reserve

Walser Media - Library of the Vorarlberg Walser Association

For many years the archivists of the Vorarlberg Walser Association have collected works on Walser research. As part of the cross-border interregional project “Walser Alps”, the board achieved their wish to create a specialist library in a central location.

The library is stocked with relevant books, videos, CD’s etc. on Walser research. Alongside standard works on popular culture and human geography can also be found field guides, papers on name research, biographies of famous Walser people, books on the geological and geographical character of the Walser communities, dialect research, historical papers, books on socio-political and economic subjects as well as, of course, literature on the customs, art, culture and religion of the Walser people.

As well as all this, the library also holds a rich stock of novels, stories, plays and poetry anthologies from Walser literature or with Walser content.
The library inventory, mostly German language literature about the Walser in Vorarlberg and Tyrol but also about the Walser areas in Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Italy, has been professionally prepared and can be found in the Online Catalogue.
