Project period: 2006 - 2007
Because of the topographical situation and the climatic conditions, agricultural exploitation in the Biosphere Park Grosses Walsertal is limited to meadow and pastureland. Agriculture decisively influences the diversity of species and habitat.
The goal of the project is a description of the mown meadows of the Biosphere Park Grosses Walsertal from a phytocoenological point of view in order to demonstrate the importance of agriculture for the diversity of the meadows and their species diversity as well as for the preservation of rare plant species. Available data were evaluated and supplemental field surveys were carried out. Fertilised meadows and dry rough meadows were treated as the focus, wetland meadows and special habitats were supplemented with samples of vegetation. The results of the project are summarised in the meadows leaflet which desribes in layman’s terms the meadow types which occur in the biosphere park.
