The goal of this project was to limit private traffic on toll roads to the Alps in the UNESCO Biosphere Park Grosses Walsertal. This goal was achieved with the walkers’ buses which were introduced in 2000. The buses have enabled a reduction in environmental pollution in general and noise pollution in particular. Since the bus operators are all local companies the added economic value also stays in the region. The walkers’ buses are linked to public transport in Vorarlberg (Verkehrsverbund Vorarlberg).
